Stomach Liposuction, the Most Common Area for Liposuction

The most common requested area for liposuction is the stomach. Stomach liposuction is becoming more common by both men and women who desire a flatter stomach. Whether they are just looking to attain a flatter stomach or they want to sculpt their bodies, liposuction is on the rise.

It is not common practice that plastic surgeons perform stomach liposuction as a weight loss technique but people who are requesting the procedure have already tried various types of exercise programs and even though they have benefited in other ways from the program they just can not get rid of the excess fat around the stomach area.

Two Kinds of Abdominal Fat

There are two kinds of abdominal, subcutaneous which means right under the skin and is most common then there is intra-abdominal fat. Intra-abdominal fat is located inside the intestines; this type of abdominal fat can’t be eliminated by stomach liposuction because it is an internal problem. There is a simple test you can perform to determine which kind of tummy fat you have by grabbing a roll of fat between the fingers and thumb and if you can easily move this fat up and down the chances are that it is subcutaneous which can be treated by stomach liposuction. Of course your doctor will ultimately determine what kind of tummy fat you have.

Tumescent Technique

The tumescent technique is the most common technique of stomach liposuction (tumescent meaning to become swollen). With this technique a local anesthesia is required, eliminating the cost and risk that are associated with a general anesthesia, in addition trauma and blood losses are significantly reduced with this technique. How it works is the tumescent solution gets injected into the fat tissue before the stomach liposuction and what the tumescent solution actually does is pumps up the fatty compartment where the liposuctions is going to performed therefore reducing the bleeding.

Recovery

Most people that have a stomach liposuction performed should be able to get up and walk around immediately after the surgery; in fact it is recommended that you take a small walk the same. Usually there are no pains medications involved, on occasions Tylenol with codeine is prescribed but most of the time regular Tylenol or your favorite aspirin suffice.

Drainage of the treated area will occur for the first forty-eight hours but this is common and is nothing to worry about. There will be some swelling and bruising but this will also go away with time and most people will be able to return to normal activities in two to three weeks.
